Khabarovsk krai is located in the central part of the Russian Far East. It has an elongated shape along the coast of the Tartar Strait and the Sea of Okhotsk. The nearest neighbors are Primorsky krai, Amur, Magadan, Jewish autonomous regions, and the Republic of Sakha (Yakutia). The border with China runs along the Ussuri River and the Kazakevichev Channel. The region is separated from the island of Sakhalin by the Nevelsky and Tartar Straits. From the east it is washed by the Sea of Okhotsk and the Sea of Japan.
