HUNTING IN ADYGEA

Hunting in the Republic of Adygea has a long history. After all, even the current Caucasian reserve has been a bison breeding plantation since 1906. Before that (since 1888), its territory was called “Kuban hunting” and was exploited as a place of aristocratic leisure of the Great Russian princes of the Romanovs. For this purpose, a special agreement was concluded with the Rada (the “parliament” of the Cossacks of the Kuban region).

The Russian government tried to limit the shooting of local animals  in 1913 and 1916. However, only the Bolsheviks managed to turn these places into a protected territory from 1919 to 1924. Since then, it is possible to hunt only on a few small lands of the Adygea slopes of the Main Caucasian Range, which lies to the north-east of the reserve boundaries.

Duck and other waterfowl live on small ponds adjoining the reservoir, and hunting them takes place in the spring and autumn seasons. The most “untwisted” places for the shooting of drake with the help of stuffed animals are the lake and the careers of the Krasnodar, Ganzhinsky and Tshitsky reservoirs (Krasnogvardeysky district of the republic).
